Brabant security regions assume an alternative celebration of carnival | NOW

Carnival can probably not be celebrated in the normal way next year, the presidents of the Brabant security regions report in a letter to Brabanters on Monday. An alternative celebration is being worked on.

Jack Mikkers (Brabant-North), Theo Weterings (Central and West-Brabant) and John Jorritsma (Brabant-Southeast) hope that “the creativity of carnival associations” can be used in this.

The trio states that the normally full pubs and large crowds at parades are not welcome in times when the corona virus is present. Various media reported in recent weeks that several carnival parades had already been canceled.

Canceling Carnival completely is not an option, according to the presidents, “just as we cannot decide that Christmas will not take place”.

In early December, the security regions hope to have plans for an alternative Carnival celebration. The mayors of Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Tilburg respectively hope for understanding from the residents, because they make this decision while the epidemiological situation in February is still uncertain.

“We are aware that we are acting from the situation as it is now, and we do not know what the situation will be in a few days, let alone in a few months. to be.”
