Microsoft buys Bethesda / CD-Action

Nobody expected that. Microsoft has just announced that it has acquired ZeniMax Media, the industry giant to which Bethesda belongs. Thus, the company from Redmond became the owner of id Software, Arkane Studios, Tango Gameworks, ZeniMax Online Studios and of course Bethesda itself.

This purchase cost the company $ 7.5 billion. Thus, the number of Microsoft-owned studios has increased from 15 to 23. The existing Bethesda brands will go to the Xbox Game Pass, as well as future productions of the company – including Starfield. Does this mean PlayStation owners will miss some of them? It just hasn’t been said yet, but we don’t expect anything else.

Pete Hines summarized the acquisition as follows:

[…] The bottom line is, we’re still Bethesda. We’re still working on the same games that we worked on yesterday, made by the same studios we’ve worked with over the years – all of these games will be published by us.
