The bulldozers of the construction site tear down a pylon of the gate of Villa Igiea without the authorization of the Superintendency and the regional councilor for cultural heritage Alberto Samonà sends the carabinieri to the place. This morning, one of the supporting pillars of the entrance to the art nouveau building, and protected by Ernesto Basile, was demolished by bulldozers for safety reasons, as specified by the construction management. “On Friday a truck hit the central pillar that supports the two vehicular gates to Villa Igiea – says the director of the construction sites Alberto Monaco – The pillar has remained dangerously and irremediably inclined and therefore now unable to support the two gates which, due to safety reasons must govern entrances and exits from the complex also and above all during the works in progress and therefore we must tear it down and reconstruct it faithfully to the original “.
The pylon had actually already been damaged a few months ago with the same dynamics and then had the coup de grace, but nothing was communicated to the superintendency. Too bad that the property is protected by the superintendency, which received communication only this morning.
“We called the carabinieri because the management of the construction sites should have first notified the superintendence and followed all the procedures – says commissioner Samonà – now we will check everything and complaints could be triggered”.
