Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Demonstrations continue in Thailand. Last weekend, an estimated 30,000 people, dominated by students, returned to protest in Bangkok.
They urged Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to step down and implement a new constitution. A government dominated by the military is called authoritarian.

Demonstrations have also returned demanding restrictions on the power of Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn. Previously considered taboo in the country.
The king, wrote AFP, is considered absent in the country when the economy has crashed due to the pandemic. The monarch, who has spent many years in Europe, has caused outrage on social media in recent months.
Demonstrators say Thailand belongs to the people. They put up a placard in the Sanam Luang field that read “The people have expressed the intention that this country belongs to the people, not the king”.
The protests have been going on for two months. This is the biggest protest since 2014.
“We want new elections and a new parliament from the people,” said student activist Patsalawalee Tanakitwiboonpon, 24, who was written by Reuters at the demonstration which also took place earlier.
“Lastly, our dream is to have a monarchy that is truly under the constitution.”
In the demo, the masses also raised their hands while pointing their three fingers. They greeted three fingers which was a symbol of rebellion.

This greeting is inspired by the popular fiction book, The Hunger Games. Where the show was considered a symbol of the district society’s rebellion against President Snow and The Capitol, who became the rulers.
Previously, Thailand entered the brink of recession because of its minus two consecutive quarterly (QtQ) economy. GDP in the second quarter of 2020 contracted 12.2%.
