Beach volleyball players Fokerots / Ābelītis win silver medals in the European U-18 Championship
Izmir (Turkey), Sept. 20, LETA. Latvian beach volleyball players Kristians Fokerots / Kārlis Ābelītis won silver medals at the European U-18 Championship in Izmir on Sunday, thus Latvia has won prizes in the continental youth championship for the second week in a row.
Fokerots / Ābelītis, sown with the eighth number, in the final with 0-2 (12:21, 13:21) gave way to the 12th number of the championship Jevhenijs Boiko / Vladislavs Omļčuks from Ukraine.
It has already been reported that before that in the semi-finals they beat the Russians Yegor Zhovov / Vitaly Markov (27) with the result 2-1 (21:17, 10:21, 15:11).
Laura Iecelnieks’ students Fokerots / Ābelītis won only one of the three games in their subgroup, but in the playoffs the Latvians fought without losses to the final.
Sandis Bērziņš / Dāvis Teteris and Katrīna Lukstiņa / Terēze Estere Grants from the Latvians withdrew from the sub-group in the first round of the play-off, but Kate Vasiljeva / Elīza Dreimane did not leave the subgroup.
Last year, Varvara Brailko and Anete Namiķe took the 5th place in the European U-18 Championship in the Austrian city of Baden, while Trent Jankovskis and Ralf Namiķis took the 9th place. Brailko / Namiķe was crowned European U-20 age group champions last week.
Another European Youth Championship in Izmir will take place next week, when the U-22 competition will take place there from 23 to 27 September.
