JAKARTA, iNews.id – One of the features iOS 14 the flagship is picture-in-picture (PiP). This feature allows users to watch videos in the background, thus allowing you to enjoy movies while opening social media.
Previously with this feature, users could watch videos YouTube in the background for free using the mobile web like Safari. So, users can watch their favorite videos or listen to music from YouTube without having to open the application.
It’s a trick that was quite viral on the internet, even before iOS 14 was officially released by Apple. But unfortunately, this trick can no longer be done.
According to a MacRumors report, the YouTube mobile website stopped supporting iOS 14’s PiP mode, at least for free users. Thus as reported from Engadget, Sunday (20/9/2020).
Meanwhile, iPad users who usually visit the desktop version of the website, don’t experience this problem.
So far, it is unclear whether YouTube deliberately restricted this activity or feature from both the application and the site. However, the official YouTube app does not support PIP on iPhone regardless of your Premium status.
It’s no surprise that the move was deliberate. The reason is, YouTube Premium itself offers background playback as one of its main facilities. Additionally, rumors are circulating that this is because the promised YouTube 4K support on Apple TV has yet to materialize.
Whatever the cause, from now on, users will no longer be able to use viral tricks to play YouTube videos in the background for free.
