German Ship Alan Kurdi Rescues More Than 100 Migrants From Its …

Rescue ship Alan Kurdi rescued more than 100 migrants on Saturday as they attempted to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe. This is reported by the German humanitarian organization Sea-Eye.

The crew rescued 114 people who were in an inflatable and a wooden boat. Among them were eight children and eight women. One of them was pregnant. In another action, nineteen more were taken from a fishing boat, including four women and ten children.

According to Sea-Eye, the migrants have been very lucky that the Alan Kurdi discovered them. According to the NGO, the European coordination centers and the Libyan coast guard did not respond to the emergency call from the boats.

‘In the meantime, all communication with aid organizations has been stopped and nobody in Europe feels responsible for these people,’ says Jan Ribbeck of Sea-Eye.

More than 590 people have died in the Mediterranean this year, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
