Krefeld (AP) – In Krefeld, a 53-year-old man is said to have abused his wife for hours. On Saturday, the emergency services were worried for hours that he might have done something to the woman’s four children – then the all-clear came: the children were doing well.
They were alone in the apartment and did not react when the police surrounded the house with special forces.
The operation in North Rhine-Westphalia began after a witness discovered a seriously injured woman in the trunk of a car in Krefeld on Saturday afternoon. She was locked in the car and had to be freed before rescue workers could take her to the hospital, a police spokesman said. The 32-year-old testified that her husband had abused her for hours since Friday. Eventually he put her in the car and drove to the place where she was found.
When the emergency services drove to his home in Krefeld, they briefly heard children’s voices, but nobody opened the door. Special forces were then called in. The suspicion: The 53-year-old could have holed up in the apartment with the four children between the ages of three and nine.
A good five hours after the seriously injured woman was found, the all-clear finally came on Saturday evening. “The children are safely out of the apartment and were handed over to the care of the youth welfare office,” said the police spokesman. There was no trace of the 53-year-old alleged violent criminal. The children were reportedly alone in the apartment. You should be doing well under the circumstances.
