The pharmaceutical company Menarini has developed a new super-fast test capable of detecting coronavirus positivity in just 12 minutes.
The coronavirus, after a slight decline in infections in the early summer months, after the middle of August has returned to scare the entire planet. At the moment, no vaccines have yet been put on the market to avoid contagion. But on the other hand, a super fast test arrived that in just 12 minutes manages to reveal the positivity to the virus.
The new Menarini Diagnostics test for antigen research is able to identify any possibility in a subject in just 12 minutes, but not only. The new super fast test is also able to detect if the patient has developed antibodies to SarsCov2 and to give an indication of his viral load.

Coronavirus, the super fast test arrives: in 12 minutes it says if you are positive
The instrumentation used is the Afias platform, easy to transport and easy to use even outside the laboratories. The new super fast test works in an elementary way. The sample is taken from the patient with a nasopharyngeal swab: in case of infection, Afias will detect the presence of the antigen and also highlight the viral load.
The same instrumentation can also be used for the serological investigation, measuring the quantity of IgM and IgG antibodies present in the patient’s blood.
Therefore the platform, in just 12 minutes, allows you to perform both tests: swab and serological test.
As stated Fabio Piazzalunga, Global Head of Menarini Diagnostics, in this period affected by the covid, “it is extremely important to provide reliable tests that allow large-scale screening and rapid detection of positive cases to contain the spread of Covid-19”.
Piazzalunga himself, Global Head of Menarini Diagnostics, informed us of how the new test should be used. The healthcare professional takes the sample from the patient with a nasopharyngeal swab and inserts it into the Afias platform.
In case of virus positivity, the Afias platform will detect the presence of the t antigen through a fluorescent signal. The more intense the fluorescence, the higher the viral load.
