“We will really have to increase the testing capacity again, everywhere.” This was predicted by doctor-microbiologist Alex Friedrich of the University Medical Center Groningen on Wednesday evening during an internal meeting at the UMCG.
Although Friedrich says he is a lot less concerned about the corona situation now than at the start of the pandemic, the coming autumn period is the main reason why Friedrich is pushing for a new increase in the testing capacity: “We see a lot of people who are going to be sick and probably not have corona. But we don’t know, we don’t see. We have to start testing. ”
But Friedrich says he is more optimistic about the future: “When I saw six months ago how we were racing in the fog, I thought: What are we doing? But we are no longer. And that gives me the hope that we will now really do everything we can to get this under control. The support I feel in society also contributes greatly to this. “
