In an Instagram post published on Friday, Michel Ancel says that he has finished in the gaming industry. Now the well-known game designer’s plan is to work on a nature reserve – something that is well emphasized in the attached video where a seemingly wild fox grabs a bag of bread from him.
Michel Ancel is one of the West’s most famous game creators. Platform hero Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil and The Rabbids creatures is all to be found on his resume, along with lesser known projects such as Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Brain Blasters.
No change for Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Wild
Until now, Ancel has been focused on two of Ubisoft’s upcoming games: Beyond Good & Evil 2, and Wild. In the post, he assures that both projects are well underway, and that the work of completing them continues without him.
– Nothing to worry about. For many months now, the teams have been autonomous, and the projects are going super well. Beautiful things are in the pipeline, he says.
About the same time as Ancel’s message gave Beyond Good & Evil 2 developers an update on how the game is going. The last we heard from them was at the end of 2018, when they released a half-hour long video.
– For several years, Michel has east of his creative vision, and helped us stay true to Beyond Good & Evil’s incredible universe. His uncompromising passion pressured us to redefine the possibilities of creating a vast, multicultural and futuristic sci-fi world. As we now work on, we will all retain this fidelity to his vision. As Michel mentioned, he has not worked with the game for a while now, says producer Guillaume Brunier about the game.
The limp platform hero Rayman is probably what Ancel is most remembered for. The first game came in 1995, and has since been followed up with both 3D and new 2D sequels. In recent times, both have Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends have been hailed as good features in the series – the latter actually got a full pot from our reviewer.
