In 2022 Nintendo hopes to be able to release a movie about Super Mario. If there is one, that is only the beginning. Nintendo is informing investors that it plans to release a lot of additional visual content in the coming years.
It had seemed for some time that Nintendo would be planning to release more cinema films. The studio owns quite a few popular characters, including Mario and Link from the Legend of Zeldagames. Movie releases seem like a good option.
Production is going well
“We’re bringing Nintendo entertainment to a much wider audience with the Super Mario animated film, scheduled for a theatrical release in 2022. Production is going smoothly, thanks to the partnership with Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination, known for the Minions films and Nintendo’s Representative Director and Fellow, Shigeru Miyamoto, who is serving as co-producer. The film will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures. “
It is not yet clear what kind of visual content should be added. Nintendo does state in its investor report that films are not the only new form of content; other things may also come up.
