iPad Air 2020 an extremely fast Apple tablet

Apple announced four new products this week, two smartwatches – the Watch SE and the Watch 6 Series – and two tablets – a cheap iPad 2020 model and a new iPad Air. The latter has a new all-screen design, the tablet is also extra powerful and a larger 10.9-inch display is integrated. Furthermore, the new Apple tablet has a renewed 12 megapixel camera on the back.

The iPad Air 2020 has significantly narrower screen edges than before. The device is also extra thin and light. The all-screen design allows the screen surface to be enlarged without increasing the overall dimensions. The new iPad Air features a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with 3.8 million pixels – for comparison, it 2019 model was equipped with a 10.5-inch screen.

As we are used to from Apple, the screen delivers a very nice image display with an accurate color reproduction. Thanks to the anti-reflection coating, the display remains easy to read, even in poor light conditions. Because the screen edges are minimized, Apple also had to find a different location for the familiar Touch ID fingerprint sensor. This is now built into the button on the top. For example, users can easily unlock the tablet or log in to certain apps. Touch ID also comes in handy for Apple Pay.

The versatile tablet is powered by the powerful A14 Bionic chip, which provides a gigantic performance boost. The A12 SoC was chosen for the latter model, which can be found in the cheapest iPad this year. The latest generation chip has a new design of 6 cores, which provides a CPU performance improvement of 40%. In addition, a new 4-core GPU provides 30% better graphics performance. Thanks to the A14 Bionic you can not only run the most demanding apps, it is also possible to edit heavy 4K videos.

To deliver renewed machine learning capabilities, the A14 Bionic is equipped with a new 16-core Neural Engine that is 2x faster and can process up to 11 trillion calculations per second. The combination of this new Neural Engine, in-CPU machine learning accelerators and higher GPU performance enable powerful on-device experiences such as image recognition, natural language acquisition, motion analytics, and more.

Apple has also equipped the iPad Air 2020 model with a better camera system. A 7 megapixel Facetime HD camera is built into the front. In addition, a 12 megapixel camera is available through the back of the tablet, this camera is identical to the one on it iPad Pro fashion model. Making 4K videos is also possible.

Apple has also revised the audio system. The stereo speakers are built in on the long side this time. Thus, the user can enjoy wide stereo sound while watching videos or movies. A USB-C port is also available for data transfer up to 5Gbps. The new Apple iPad Air is also compatible with WiFi, 4G

The Air is also compatible with the Magic Keyboard. This optional keyboard has a floating design and a built-in trackpad. The tablet can also be used in combination with the Smart Keyboard Folio and the new Smart Folio Covers. These covers are available in black and white and in the three new seasonal colors: deep navy, cyprus green and pink citrus. Naturally, the Apple Pencil (2^of generation), which can be magnetically clicked on the side for connection, charging and storage.

Apple tablet with iPadOS 14 operating system

The new tablets will run on iPadOS 14 immediately upon launch. This new operating system has been available yesterday and includes many new functions. Various layout improvements have also been made to simplify operation. In addition, more applications are available for the Apple Pencil, such as note-taking and new ways to handle handwriting.

iPadOS 14 also supports the Write feature, so you can write in any text field with your Apple Pencil. This way you can respond to an iMessage or look something up in Safari – without having to put down the Pencil. Writing also uses the machine learning on the iPad Air to immediately convert your handwriting into typed text.

It is Apple’s intention to produce climate neutral in 10 years. This environmentally friendly approach cannot be realized in one year, so this progressive goal is already taken into account in the production of the iPad 2020 models. For example, the housing of the iPad Air is completely made of recycled aluminum and only recycled tin is used for soldering the motherboard. The rare earth metals in the speaker magnets are also 100% recycled and the packaging uses wood fibers that are either recycled or sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Simultaneously with the new products, Apple has also announced a new Apple One subscription. This subscription service will be available from later this autumn and consists of an all-in formula. Apple One combines Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud and more. This way you can use all services with one subscription, on any Apple device. Two types of subscriptions are available in the Netherlands:
• Individual subscription – € 15 per month: Apple Music, Apple TV +, Apple Arcade and 50GB iCloud storage
• Family subscription – € 20 per month: Apple Music, Apple TV +, Apple Arcade and 200 GB iCloud storage. This subscription can be shared with a maximum of 6 family members.
