The National Geographic Institute has registered on the morning of this Wednesday, 8:18 am island time, an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 off the coast of the municipality of Telde, in Gran Canaria. The epicenter is located in the sea, 18 kilometers deep.
The tremor has been felt by the population, practically, throughout the island. The intensity has been stronger in the municipalities of Agaete, Agüimes, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Santa Brígida, Gáldar, Telde, Valsequillo and Ingenio. It has also been noted in some areas of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Teror and La Aldea de San Nicolás.
During the last three days the IGN has registered a dozen seismic movements in the Canary Islands. Only during the early hours of this Wednesday, the Canary Islands Seismic Network operated by INVOLCAN has registered a seismic swarm composed of more than 60 small earthquakes. The events are taking place in the surroundings of Vilaflor, in Tenerife, at depths of 7-10 km. The first event was registered at 02:46 (Canary time).
