Winston Groom, an American author best known as the writer of ‘Forrest Gump’, has passed away at the age of 77. That reports American media.

Groom died Wednesday evening in his hometown of Fairhope, Alabama, Mayor Karin Wilson confirms. “We are extremely saddened by his passing. He was definitely an icon, ”she told CNN.

The book of Forrest gump was written in 1986 and was successfully made into a film in 1994 with Tom Hanks in the lead role. The book and film tell of the life of a simple soul with a low IQ. Despite his limited thinking ability, he is in the front row of many historical events.
