BELLUNO.
A large reshuffle is looming at the top of the Venetian healthcare system and it is determined by three concomitant agents: the termination on December 31 of the mandate of the thirteen general managers of Ulss, Companies and Iov; the epilogue of Domenico Mantoan’s ten-year season to whom Minister Roberto Speranza has now entrusted the helm of Agenas, the agency-operative arm of the health department; the intent of the governor Luca Zaia to make new grafts in an overall efficient system but in need of further stimuli and in any case deprived shortly of several veterans on the way to retirement.
TERMS FOR CANDIDATES EXPIRED
So much so. After the deadline of the national competition reserved for aspiring managers, among the 148 participants there are well-known faces (starting with a good number of outgoing CEOs), unknown characters and some potential return horses. To stand out, then, are the step back, primarily that of Luciano Flower, the director of the hospital of Padua: for some time in friction with Palazzo Balbi, he will return to his native Trentino; Claudio also renounces to compete Dario, old acquaintance of Treviso and Padua, migrated to the top of Umbrian healthcare at the behest of Luca Coletto; Francesca was also absent from the list Russa, head of the regional prevention department that has distinguished itself in the epidemiological contrast to Covid and so Giancarlo Ruscitti, another long-time manager now at the top of the Puglia health department. Returns instead Adriano Marcolongo, a figure well known to the white coats: after a brief interlude at the Aviano Cancer Center, he currently directs the Sant’Andrea hospital in Rome but aspires to return to the Venetian fold. Joseph too Polimeni peeps out: for some years he has been at the helm of the Pordenone health authority and his performances are judged appreciable. We will see.
THE LAST WORD TO ZAIA
But which organization chart is emerging? The last word, more usually, will be up to Zaia, after screening by an evaluation commission that will be appointed after the vote and the birth of the new council. Some pieces, however, seem defined. Starting with the top role, the succession to Mantoan, who sees Giuseppe as a favorite From Ben, long-term director of the Serenissima Ulss; promotion in sight also for Francesco Benazzi: from Treviso it now seems projected to the influential Company Padua hospital where the new university hospital is in the works. News in sight a Belluno: the designated would be Mauro Bonin, Venetian, Catholic education, scout leader and mountain enthusiast, one of the creators and managers of Azienda Zero (our local health governance) with responsibility for financial management; he is Mantoan’s trusted man like Patrizia Simionato, accredited to the appointment in Rovigo.
THE VACANT BOXES
What about vacant posts? Here the question becomes complicated and involves at least two figures. Charles Bramezza, first of all: he directs the Ulss Veneto Orientale and his destination in Treviso has been aired, but not very welcome to some circles of the local League; the alternative would then be Venice, perhaps in the perspective of a merger of the two provincial Ulss. Another candidate at stake is Gino Gumirato, already appreciated at the helm of the (dissolved) unit of Mirano, he later combined various professional experiences: he could replace the pensioner Domenico Scibetta at the Ulss Euganea but there are those who also see him in the running for the chair of Azienda Zero.
AFTER THE CYCLONE IN VERONA
What else? In Verona Giovanni Pavesi will take over from Francesco Cobello, hit by the bacterial cyclone that sowed death and infections among the newborns of Borgo Trento with the corollary of administrative and criminal investigations; in the Vicenza area, which counts the Berica and the Pedemontana, the final placet will come from a great consultation with the local Northern League proconsuls, the councilor for health Manuela Lanzarin and the group leader at the Ferro-Fini assembly Nicola Finco. True, health is priceless. –
