The Czech manufacturer of 3D printers, the company Prusa Research, is launching a special program for schools and other educational institutions together with the start of the new school year. Under the name Trash for schools offers not only discounted prices for printers and consumables, but also teaching materials, training and, above all, specific ideas on what to do with a 3D printer at school.
The Průša program for schools addresses all levels of schools, from primary to university, as well as out-of-school educational facilities for children and youth (libraries, clubs, leisure centers, etc.). Our goal is not to sell a 3D printer to schools and continue to take care of nothing. I believe that most teachers are open to modern technology, but at their busy level, they no longer have the capacity to learn everything on their own. The equipment is bought, but then dust settles on it. Therefore, we want to help create a platform through which teachers will share their projects, consult problems and solve them,
says the company’s CEO Josef Průša.
On the website proskoly.prusa3d.cz already offers an introductory lesson to get acquainted with 3D printing and a few simple practical projects that students can try out. But this is just the beginning,
emphasizes Průša. We want to offer teachers a helping hand – to advise on the technical side, to help finalize projects and the like.
For participating in the creation of content, Prusa Research also offers a specific reward in the form of the opportunity to get a printer for free. Schools can first borrow it for three months, if during this time they create their own project with its help, the loan becomes a gift. This is not a competition, the project must meet only certain basic criteria. They emphasize mainly comprehensibility, the possibility of use in other schools and the greatest possible involvement of the students themselves.
