In October, airBaltic will temporarily suspend flights from Riga to Liepaja

The Latvian national airline airBaltic will temporarily suspend flights from Riga to Liepaja from October 2, airBaltic representative Alise Briede informed.

Flights between the two cities are currently suspended until October 24.

Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said the airline continues to operate more than 50 routes across Europe.

“Unfortunately, travel restrictions have significantly affected our operations, and currently it is not possible to continue flights to Liepaja, because the demand for these flights is currently very low. Regardless, I am convinced that this route will return to our network soon, ”said Gauss.

It has already been reported that the airBaltic Group’s turnover due to the Covid-19 pandemic decreased by 63.6% in the first half of this year to 78.713 million euros, while the group’s losses increased almost seven times and amounted to 184.77 million euros. AirBaltic’s audited turnover last year was 503.281 million euros, which is 23.1% more than in 2018, but the company suffered a loss of 7.729 million euros compared to the profit a year earlier.

The Latvian state owns 96.14% of the voting rights in the capital of airBaltic, while the financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tusen, owns Aircraft Leasing 1 – 3.86%.
