Las Palmas agrees with the taxi sector to increase the fleet by half

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has agreed with the Taxi Board to increase the number of taxi licenses that can circulate in the capital during the current health crisis by half, starting next June 11.

A statement from the Consistory recalls this Friday that the decree signed by Mayor Augusto Hidalgo on May 10 expanded to 33% a service that was reduced to 20% at the end of April, to comply with the decree of the state of alarm due to the health crisis of the covid-19.

Thus, when the current rotation ends next Thursday, two shifts will be established for the 1,640 licenses in the capital: the odd ones will circulate on odd days and the even ones will do the same on even days.

This will go from the 547 taxis that are now operating every day in the city to 820.
