This was conveyed by the Chairman of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) Indonesia, Dr. Jarir At Thobari.
In the Patient Safety Day 2020 webinar, which was held on Thursday (17/9/2020), Jarir said that medicine has two sides.
Medicines not only provide benefits for patients. Medicines can also have risks that can make the patient’s condition worse.
“The risk can happen to everyone and sometimes the risk is much heavier than the disease being treated,” said the academic at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
He explained that drug side effects are all unwanted reactions, effects, or signs that can harm the patient.
“The scale is detrimental from not being able to eat to fatality,” he added.
