The municipality of Rotterdam is fed up with the lingering Feyenoord. The Eredivisie top club must now finally decide on the plans for the new stadium. The Algemeen Dagblad reports this.
Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb and Alderman Arjan van Gils sat around the table with the Feyenoord commissioners on Monday. The club management would still support the project, but some decisions still have to be made internally. Rotterdam is not interested in that. “The patience of the municipality is running out,” says Van Gils in the AD.
“They sometimes say: you should not disturb a brooding chicken. But if it takes two years to incubate, you can ask yourself what the quality of the egg will be”, the councilor continues. Feyenoord tells the newspaper that it will take the plunge at the end of this week, at the latest early next week.
The municipality has already made it clear that it is no longer adding an extra cent. The stadium now has a price tag of 365.7 million euros, of which 40 million is for the account of the municipality. Feyenoord has already spent twenty million on the stadium plans, without even one pile having gone into the ground.
