Masks buff and scuba is often used by many people when doing activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, this type of mask turned out to be ineffective in preventing transmission of the corona virus through droplets.
In a study conducted by Duke University, 14 types of masks were tested. The buff masks commonly used by motorcyclists are much worse than ordinary masks. Buff and scuba-type masks offer very little protection.
PT KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI) even conducted outreach to KRL users to avoid wearing buff masks and scuba masks. In social media accounts, PT KCI explained that scuba or buff masks were only 5 percent effective in preventing the risk of exposure to dust, viruses and bacteria.
As is known, using a mask is one of the efforts to prevent COVID-19 besides washing hands and maintaining distance.
Then what are the types of masks that are safe to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus?
1. N95 mask

This mask is a type of receptor. The N95 mask offers more protection than other types of masks because it can filter out large and small particles. Just as the name suggests, the N95 mask can block 95 percent of the tiny particles.
Some N95 masks have a valve that makes them easier to inhale. It’s just that the price of this type of mask is fairly high on the market.
2. Surgical masks

If scuba masks are prohibited, surgical masks are certainly the right choice. Surgical masks are also known as medical masks, these masks are disposable to protect the wearer’s nose and mouth from contact with droplets, splashes and sprays that may contain germs or viruses.
Surgical masks can filter out large particles in the air. Surgical masks can also protect others by reducing exposure to saliva and respiratory secretions from mask wearers. This surgical mask can provide protection when N95 masks are not available.
3. Cloth mask

Cloth masks can reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Cloth masks are made from ordinary materials such as sheets made of tightly woven cotton. We recommend choosing a 2-3 layer cloth mask to reduce the spread of droplets that may occur.
So that cloth masks can be a better choice than scuba and buff masks. Quoted in Science Alert, it was observed that the number of droplets increased when people buffed. It is possible that the material used has broken down a number of droplets into smaller particles.
This creates a user masks buff is counterproductive because smaller droplets are easily carried away by air and could cause harm to those around them.
Avoid using scuba masks and buff This is done because inside the KRL the air is cooler so that the droplets can become airborne and stay in the air for a long time so that the transmission of COVID-19 is getting higher.
