Kanal Center Pompidou, the future museum of modern and contemporary art in the former Citroën garage on Place Sainctelette in Brussels, will not be able to open its doors in 2023, as planned. Due to the lockdown and a protracted permit procedure, the opening has been postponed by one year, to spring 2024. Director Yves Goldstein confirms this. Bruzz.
The demolition permit is now in order, so that the demolition of the old office building and parts of the former work studios can be started at the end of this month, Goldstein confirms. He hopes that the building and environmental permit for the new project will be approved by the end of November, so that construction work can start immediately after demolition.
The museum will organize performances in the meantime. The exhibition will open on 24 September ‘It never ends’ with monumental installations by the Swiss artist John Armleder, some of which are new ones that were also made especially for the building. This was originally planned for April 2, but has been postponed due to the corona crisis so that the public can be received in complete safety.
