The mercury rises to around 31 degrees on Tuesday, but that does not stop the Intratuin garden center chain from already focusing on the Christmas period. Intratuin will provide the garden centers with Christmas baubles and other decorations earlier than in other years, the company writes in a press release on Tuesday.
Where the first Christmas shows in previous years were started in mid-October, this is now being brought forward slightly. According to the garden center chain, the first Christmas shows are already set up in September.
“That may seem early, but the real Christmas fans, such as the miniature village builders, are often at the door sooner,” writes Peter Paul Kleinbussink, director of Intratuin Nederland.
Due to the corona crisis, the chain has opted to install Santa Clauses earlier. “Now that people are less likely to go out and make it more cozy at home this year, given the circumstances, we expect to start decorating extra early”, says Kleinbussink.
Christmas shows of vital importance for garden centers
The Christmas shows are of vital importance for the garden industry. Research by market researcher GfK shows that the industry earned about 115 million euros last year from the sale of Christmas trees and baubles. 44 percent of this was spent at garden centers such as Intratuin.
Intratuin does not assume that this will reduce the number of visitors this year. “Intratuin is not just a shop, but a day out,” says the garden center. In order to allow customers to do Christmas shopping safely, the garden centers have been set up more spacious this year. In addition, there are walking routes and there are longer opening hours.
Christmas lovers do not have to worry that the garden centers will be less rich with Christmas items due to the pandemic. “Of course the Christmas shows remain just as exuberant. Right now we want to let people dream away and let them escape from the issues of the day.”
