French aircraft maker Airbus offers employees an extra two months’ salary when they take advantage of the voluntary departure scheme. For example, the aircraft maker wants to make the departure scheme more attractive and prevent more expensive, forced layoffs, writes the news agency Bloomberg Tuesday.
Airbus has been suffering from the corona crisis for a long time. Due to the inadequate demand for air travel and the sector’s tightening belt, hardly any more aircraft are purchased. Only one plane was ordered from Airbus in August, it turned out last week.
The aircraft maker therefore decided to cut fifteen thousand jobs in July. This number had to be achieved through a combination of a voluntary severance scheme and sending people on early retirement.
Due to the disappointing recovery in the sector, CEO Guillaume Faury warned last Friday against additional austerity measures in the company. “I owe it to you to be transparent: the voluntary severance scheme is unlikely to be enough,” said Faury.
In addition to the two months extra salary for voluntary departure, the aircraft maker wants to entice people to take a job within the company that pays less, by paying a monthly bonus in the first year.
