Erasmus bridge open again for cyclists and pedestrians | Inland

The bridge will remain closed for shipping for the time being. It is not known when large ships can pass again for which the bridge has to be opened, the spokeswoman said. Trams cannot pass it for the time being either. First the bridge needs to be repaired. It is not yet known how long this will take.

Monday morning a large steel frame came down. This was because a cable from the bridge counterweight was broken. This also released the overhead line of the tram and came down. It is not known what broke the cable.

The entire construction fell on the road when the bridge was open and closed again. Nobody was hurt.

The 22 meter construction has since been removed. City management employees will inspect and repair the damage. The Rotterdam tram company RET has set up a diversion. Travelers who need to go to the other bank can also take the metro.
