Riga, September 14, LETA. This year, the Poetry Days Award was given to Raimonds Ķirķis for his debut collection of poems “Kartes” and Jānis Hvoinskis for the book “Muse from the City N.”, Signe Viška, the event organizer’s representative, informed LETA.
Viška said that four original poems and two cool poetry collections had been nominated for the Poetry Days award, which were evaluated by the Poetry Days Council.
On September 13, the international poetry festival “Poetry Days 2020” came to an end, which gathered poets, coolers and poetry lovers for ten days in readings, performances, travels, stands and other events.
The central program of the festival offered to attend 25 poetry events that took place in museums and cultural places of Riga, including the art center “Noass” on the AB dam, which was the embassy of the Poetry Days for the second year.
The chairman of the Latvian Writers’ Union, Arno Jundze, noted that Poetry Days have become ingrained in the subconscious of the Latvian people over time, so he expressed satisfaction that the festival took place this year, and it went as planned.
“I liked that there were a lot of young people in the audience during these Poetry Days – for example, in the evening of Baltic guests, it was really amazing,” Jundze emphasized.
Although the central program of the festival has ended, Poetry Days and events dedicated to poetry in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia will continue throughout September. The program of events can be found on the Poetry Days website “dzejasdienas.com”, Viška pointed out.
