Original Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner on my website commented on the announcement of the controversial remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Recall submitted by Ubisoft last thursday the updated version of “Sands of Time” collided with harsh criticism of players… Users were dissatisfied with the visual style and graphics quality.
According to Meckner, he did not take an active part in the development (the original game was enough): he consulted the team and introduced them to the Prince’s voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal.
The game designer asked Ubisoft to modernize the cutscenes, which left much to be desired in 2003. The introductory sections, in particular, should convey a sense of the grandeur of what is happening and all the damage caused by the Sands.
The remake is not yet ready, but Meckner is already confident that the developers from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai have coped with the task: “I think they hit the mark. Even if recreated from scratch with new resources and engine, the plot, gameplay, level design and dialogue remained true to the original. “.
“Last week I played with a fresh build. A shiver went through me. I was relieved when I realized that my gameplay reflexes and knowledge of maps from 15 years ago are still relevant. This allowed me to smoothly navigate the dense, sensual and atmospheric game world. I could only dream of such a level of elaboration with the Montreal team in 2003 “– said Mekner.
The Sands of Time remake will go on sale on January 21, 2021 for PC (Uplay, Epic Games Store), PS4 and Xbox One. Following the announcement, the developers promised to improve the graphics to release.
