The Chinese government could also run covert disinformation campaigns through TikTok, the Trump administration feared, by determining which videos American users see. TikTok owner ByteDance has always denied having any ties to the Chinese government. Nevertheless, the US government had demanded a solution by September 20, otherwise it would block the popular app in the US.
