According to the leader of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Filaret, 91, he found the cause of the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19 considers it a divine punishment for gay weddings.
The Kiev Patriarchate announced on Friday that Filaret had contracted coronavirus himself. Due to his advanced age, he had to be hospitalized. “His condition is stable. We ask you to pray for him,” the Orthodox priest said on the official Facebook page.
In Ukraine, more than 140,000 cases of infection have been confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic, and the virus has claimed nearly 3,000 lives.
Filaret spoke about the causes of the pandemic in March. “It is God’s punishment for human sins and the overall sinfulness of humanity. I am thinking in particular of same-sex marriages. That is why there is a coronavirus,” he said on Ukrainian television.
The Ukrainian Insight movement, which is fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ community, sued the patriarch in April. In a subsequent statement, the Church objected that Filaret had the right to freedom of expression.
