We are experiencing the second wave of coronavirus, said the Austrian Chancellor

“We are witnessing the beginning of the second wave,” the chancellor said in a statement, calling on citizens to adhere to social distances and other measures to prevent the spread of covid-19.

The Austrian government announced on Friday that it would tighten the rules on wearing veils due to the spread of covid. People will have to cover their mouths and noses again in shops, service establishments, offices or schools.

In Austria, which has almost nine million people, 33,159 people have been infected with coronavirus since the outbreak. 756 patients died with covid-19, 26,760 recovered. 226 people are now hospitalized, 44 of them in intensive care units.

Chancellor Kurz warned citizens that the government could impose further restrictions if the number of cases rises. However, the government wants to avoid the strict quarantine with a minimum of outings and the closure of shops and restaurants, which was in force in March.
