In Hungary, a record number of people infected with the new coronavirus were registered 24 hours a day.
Saturday’s figure is 25% higher than the previous record of 716 cases registered on Friday.
In the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban has taken a less centralized approach, deciding on restrictions on a case-by-case basis.
Orban announced in a video posted on his Facebook page on Saturday that the government’s goal is not only to save lives, but also to keep the country’s economy running. In the second quarter of this year, the Hungarian economy contracted by 13.6%, the largest decline in the region.
“The virus must not paralyze us again,” Orban said.
In Hungary, 11,825 cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been confirmed, and 633 people have died from Covid-19.
