These would be the reasons that led yesterday, in the middle of the night, a 26-year-old with small precedents to reach the home of his ex’s new partner, together with his four-year-old son, and to kill him with five stab wounds at the height of a violent quarrel. .

The arrest
The young man, who had taken refuge in his home not far from the place of the murder, was arrested by the carabinieri with his clothes still stained with blood and, taken to the barracks, confessed almost immediately. In front of the military and the prosecutor on duty, Savina Toscani, he could not help but admit that he repeatedly hit the contemporary Nicola Brescia in the shoulder and chest. He left him in a lake of blood before the eyes of the child, his 22-year-old wife from whom he had been separated for a few months and the victim’s father, Angelo Brescia, 50. Fortunately, the couple’s other daughter, aged 7, was at her grandparents’ home in a nearby town. The murder took place near the entrance hall of a building in the center of Bitetto, a small town on the outskirts of Bari. The self-confessed murderer (whose name we do not mention for the protection of underage children) tried to justify himself. But he was detained on charges of voluntary homicide and double attempted homicide. According to what was declared by his defender, the lawyer Domenico Pier Paolo Valerio, the 26-year-old would have acted to defend himself, after being threatened by his ex-wife’s new partner.

The investigations
A reconstruction of the facts on which the carabinieri are investigating and on which the same woman and the father of the killed boy will be able to provide useful details in the next few hours. Both were hospitalized and operated on for their chest injuries, but are not life threatening. What certainly, as learned from several witnesses awakened by screams, that the quarrel started around 3.30 in the morning, when the murderer buzzed the intercom at the Brescia home, where Nicola lived with his parents and where yesterday she had also stopped for the night the woman. According to what he said to the investigators, the 26-year-old wanted to take his son back to his ex-wife, after having met her a few hours earlier while they were walking in the municipal villa. From that moment the man would have showered the young woman with messages, starting to harbor anger and resentment, before reaching his partner’s house. It is no coincidence that the investigators are also acquiring the telephone records. According to an initial reconstruction, Angelo Brescia first got on the street and, subsequently, his son Nicola and the woman. According to what was reported by the killer’s lawyer, Nicola would have ordered his rival to go away holding a knife (which the carabinieri are looking for) and also trying to hit him. During the brawl, the murderer – according to the lawyer’s version – would have picked up the weapon that fell to the ground and first wounded the ex-wife and Angelo Brescia, intervened to quell the dispute, only to then rage on Nicola, hitting him in the chest, abdomen and back. In days the prosecutor will arrange the autopsy and the murderer will appear before the investigating judge to validate the arrest. Meanwhile, the mayor of Bitetto, Fiorenza Pascazio, has assured that the child will be taken care of immediately by the social services who already know the family.
