Five injured after a head-on collision in Maasmechelen, mother (3 … (Maasmechelen)

Maasmechelen –

Saturday evening, a 39-year-old woman was seriously injured in a serious traffic accident on the Ontsluitingsweg in Maasmechelen. The woman’s vehicle, with her 7-year-old daughter on the passenger side, collided head-on with a passenger car containing three people.

The heavy head-on hit happened around 7 pm. The driver of a vehicle with three young men from Maasmechelen probably lost control of the steering wheel, after which the Audi collided head-on with an oncoming car: the car with the mother behind the wheel. After the crash, the car with the three occupants ended up on the shoulder between the bushes. Immediately after the collision, other motorists stopped to provide assistance. A fire extinguisher was also used as smoke could be seen from the vehicle in the bushes.

According to the Lanaken-Maasmechelen police, who made the findings, all five occupants were trapped. Five ambulances and two MUG teams were called in to provide primary care for the injured. The Maasmechelen fire brigade station of the East Limburg relief zone came on site to free the trapped people. All five occupants had to be evacuated: the woman was taken to hospital in critical condition, her child was also injured. The three boys in the other car were also seriously injured.

The police closed the Ontsluitingsweg between the Rijksweg (N78) and the roundabout on the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal. The public prosecutor’s office in Limburg sent a traffic expert to Maasmechelen to investigate the circumstances.
