Perhaps they started the fire themselves, in protest at the conditions in which they had to live. Some have been there for 5 years and recently the camp was quarantined after corona infections were detected.
After the fire, the migrants and refugees were driven to another place by the police. There they tried of their own accord to provide new shelter, by setting up small tents or building constructions themselves along the side of the road. “The people have built tents with bamboo sticks and small sticks they found in the forest”, NOS journalist Heleen D’Haens, who is on site, tells our editorial team.
“There are thousands of people, there is a lot of waste on the street and the question I still hear is: ma’am, when will there be a solution for us.” (The text continues below the images.)
