September 11, 2001: A day that changed the United States

A series of terrorist attacks by a group of Islamic radicals on targets in the United States on September 11, 2001, have left a mark on modern human history. In total, almost three thousand people lost their lives. The terrorists hijacked four airliners. Two of them crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, one crashed into the Pentagon building, and the fourth crashed with hijackers and passengers in Pennsylvania.

A group of 19 suicide bombers, most of whom came from Saudi Arabia, hijacked four planes that Tuesday morning to use to attack several symbols of America.

The first target at 8:46 was the north tower of the New York World Trade Center (WTC), 17 minutes later a second plane crashed into the south tower. The two skyscrapers, which were icons of the city, then collapsed. Without the hijackers, 2606 people died, and another 147 died on board the planes.
