The composition of the toxic substance is the most important indication for the German government, indicating that Russian President Vladimir Putin may have been involved in the case. The more complex, newer and rarer the composition of the poison, the more likely it is that it can only be reached with the help of the Russian state apparatus, writes Der Spiegel.
German security authorities now assume that only Russian secret services could poison Navalny at or on the way to Tomsk, Siberia. Due to the fact that Navalný was closely watched by the Russian FSB, the German authorities see no other option, the magazine continues.

The Kremlin denies guilt
At the end of August, Navalny collapsed on board an airplane returning from Siberia to Moscow. According to the German authorities, who reconstructed the case, it was expected that he would still die on the plane. Only the presence of a pilot who made an emergency landing in Omsk and the subsequent medical treatment with an antibody in the local hospital saved the life of the 44-year-old opposition leader.
Navalnyj was transferred to Berlin a few days after the poisoning. Doctors at the Charité clinic have already woken him from an artificial sleep, and the patient is reportedly communicating.
The Kremlin has resolutely denied any involvement in the alleged assassination attempt on several occasions. Moscow, on the other hand, blames Berlin for politicizing the case and demands that Russian investigators Navalny be heard in Berlin.
According to Der Spiegel magazine, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was also involved in the investigation, and its delegation visited the Charité Clinic last weekend to receive a blood and urine sample from a Russian patient.
