Today is the last day of presentations at the Venice Film Festival, which will end on Saturday with the awards ceremony. In competition for the Golden Lion there is Nomadland by Sino-American director Chloé Zhao, with Frances McDormand in the title role. It is taken from the homonymous book by Jessica Bruder and tells of a woman in her sixties who, after losing her job in the Great recession, lives as a nomad in a van, moving across the vast American West.
Always in competition there is Between one death and another (Between) by Azerbaijani director Hilal Baydarov. It shows the day of a boy in search of himself and someone who can understand and love him and who will find answers after a series of accidents. The director explained that “in an environment like Azerbaijan, there can be many restrictions and limitations, but I confess that I love them. Somehow they forced me, like everyone else, to find new ways to give voice to feelings. I hope this transpires in my films ».

In the Horizons section it was presented The predators, the first film by Pietro Castellitto, son of actor and director Sergio Castellitto. It is the choral story of two opposing Roman families – one proletarian and fascist, one bourgeois and intellectual – approached by an accident. The film also stars Pietro Castellitto, in the role of a philosophy assistant ousted from the group chosen to exhume the body of Friedrich Nietzsche.

The truth about “La dolce vita” by Giuseppe Pedersoli is instead presented out of competition: it tells the story of the birth of the film through letters and interviews to Federico Fellini, who made it, to Giuseppe Amato, who produced it, and to Angelo Rizzoli, who distributed it, as well as sequences from the film and scenic reconstructions. In the same category there is also Paolo Conte, away with me, by Giorgio Verdelli, dedicated to the Piedmontese singer-songwriter.
