High Quarantine Bill for Kids Who Want to See Dying Father | Abroad

The issue has caused quite a stir in Australia, the BBC reports. A fundraising campaign to raise the necessary money has already yielded almost 125,000 euros. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has transferred more than 600 euros. “I donated because unlike the Prime Minister of Queensland, we are compassionate people who don’t want to see Mark’s children suffer for the rest of their lives because they couldn’t visit their dying father,” wrote one of the donors.

Australia has introduced extremely strict travel restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including for travel between states and territories in the country. Keans was initially told to choose only one child to see him. The state government reversed this and agreed to allow all children to see their fathers. But only if they were quarantined in a hotel for two weeks at their own expense.

The health authorities in Queensland say in a statement that they have no choice. “We are in the midst of a global pandemic and we must protect our communities, especially the most vulnerable members.”
