this vitamin is important for muscle maintenance

As we get older, the strength of the muscles decreases. Still, there is a way to make it go at a slower pace.

Sarcopenia affects more than 50 million people worldwide each year who are over 50 years old. That is bad because it contributes to the formation of Diabetes type 2, weakening of the muscles, loss of independence and a poorer quality of life.

There are still few solutions for sarcopenia, so it is important to find out early on whether to prevent it altogether. A lot of research is therefore being done. Most aim to prevent the condition by taking in more protein.

In addition to proteins, vitamin C is also important for muscles

Of course, proteins are linked to muscle building, but more is shown in more research. There is research done by the University of East Anglia to Vitamin C, which was barely done in the past. This shows that the more men of middle and older age take the vitamin, the greater their skeletal muscle mass. Vitamin C has already been linked to bone health, but it can probably also help us to get strong muscles. Vitamin C is normally found in vegetables, potatoes and fruit.

People who don’t take enough vitamin C can suffer from fatigue, poorer health, fragile bones and less powerful muscles. In extreme cases it even leads to scurvy, which occurred regularly during the long journeys to the Dutch East Indies centuries ago. Vitamin C ensures the production of carnitine, which ensures that fatty acids are brought to the energy centers of cells. In other words, it provides energy for the muscles. It is also an antioxidant against radical molecules that cause muscle cells to break down.

The new research was conducted among 13,000 men and women between the ages of 42 and 48. They had to keep a food diary of everything they eat and drink. In addition, there were also blood tests to measure the vitamins. So it gives a little more clarity about the muscles.
