Summer is the easiest season to come across warts and mycosis, especially on the feet. People often walk barefoot and frequent places such as swimming pools, where there is a greater chance of coming into contact with those responsible for these infections. What are they due to? “The warts are caused by the Human papilloma virus (Hpv, Human papilloma virus). This virus can penetrate the cells of the epidermis through microlesioni and give rise to formations, the warts precisely, which have the appearance of fleshy growths with gills which tend to peel. The most affected site is the sole of the foot: the wart grows inward and can cause pain because it approaches the nerve endings – explains Paolo Sena, director of the complex operating unit of dermatology of the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII of Bergamo -. The mycosis they are instead caused by fungi or fungi that are found almost everywhere, sometimes even part of the commensal flora present on our skin, where they do not create problems except in particular conditions. Most fungi take root when the skin is most vulnerable because the immune system is weakened or why humid heat and sweating they create an ideal microenvironment for their proliferation ».
