LG Wing smartphone gets Gimbal Motion camera

LG Electronics registers European trademark for Gimbal Motion Camera. LG Wing smartphone is likely to be equipped with gimbal video stabilization.

LG will introduce a very special phone this Monday. The LG Wing has two displays that are located behind each other. By turning the front 90 degrees you can use both screens. Various product renders have already appeared online for this uniquely designed smartphone. In this way it has also become clear what the back of the Wing will look like.

A triple camera is visible on the back, which is located in the top left corner. Three large camera lenses are visible, with a flash right next to it. The camera system is very similar in design to that of the Oppo Reno 4 Pro. Apart from the design, no details are yet known about the triple camera system.

It is possible that a new trademark application can offer, because LetsGoDigital has discovered an application from LG Electronics in which a new function emerges that is most likely intended for the Wing’s camera.

LG Gimbal Motion Camera

On September 9, 2020, LG Electronics filed a trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) for the designation ‘Gimbal Motion Camera’. The application was submitted from Spain and is categorized as Class 9, with the following description:

Gimbal Motion Camera trademark description: Smartphones; Tablet computers; Data processing apparatus; Apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images; Cameras for smartphones; Smartphone camera lenses; Video cameras; Stands adapted for mobile phones; Sensors; Software.

A gimbal camera…. where have we heard that before. Last month, Vivo -a sister company of Oppo- managed to create a lot of attention worldwide with the Vivo X50 Pro, as the world’s first smartphone with gimbal camera for greatly improved video image stabilization. This form of image stabilization works significantly better than existing OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) systems, even when you move the device intensively – ideal for making action videos.

Chances are that LG Wing, which is expected next week, will also be equipped with a gimbal stabilized camera. All the more so because the top lens appears to be larger than the other two. This was also very characteristic of the Vivo X50 Pro. It would also match exactly in the timeline, after all, manufacturers such as LG often apply for the necessary trademarks shortly before release.

Cameras have become an important part of smartphones. The video quality has also improved significantly in recent times. For example, the one launched earlier this year LG V60 ThinQ about an 8K video function. It is possible that we will soon also see this functionality in the Wing, but then combined with the gimbal motion camera stabilization.

LG Wing smartphone

The LG Wing will be the first smartphone to be part of it Explorer Project, launched an experimental project to create new ways to interact with mobile devices. The Wing is certainly innovative. At first it appears to be a regular mobile phone with a large 6.8-inch OLED display and narrow bezels.

Unique, however, is the option to tilt the screen 90 degrees. This makes the second display panel visible, which is a bit smaller with a size of 4 inches. The resulting T-shape creates new operating options. For example, you can use the front, horizontally oriented screen for watching videos or playing games, while the rear display panel can be used to operate it.

The LG Wing is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 765G chipset with 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM. In addition, a 4,000 mAh battery is built in. This Monday, September 14, LG will reveal all the details.
