On September 18, the premiere of the play “The Humans” by the American playwright Stephen Karam, which will be shown at the Valmiera Theater under the title “Family”, is expected to be premiered in the Round Hall of the Valmiera Theater.
“There are six fundamental fears that everyone experiences in different combinations from time to time – fear of poverty, criticism, ill health, age, death and fear of losing someone’s love. The performance “Family” looks at these fears through the middle class family, which have grown from the author’s own past experience, revealing to the bone what it means to be a family, “says the production application.
Director Reinis Suhanovs says about the work: “The great thing about this material is that painful and unpleasant topics are viewed just like in life, through self-ironic, black humor. And reading the play, the initial laughter about the situation described by this particular family was replaced by the feeling that I would have the strength not to go far and hurt my loved ones.
It’s the feeling when you look in a strange, dirty, dark mirror and suddenly see your picture. ”
The play was first staged in 2016 at the Broadway Theater. It has received numerous nominations and awards to date, including the prestigious Tony Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, continuing its winning streak around the world.
The creative ensemble in the production of Valmiera Theater also includes costume artist Līga Zepa, light and video artist Gatis Priednieks-Melnacis, musical design by Jēkabs Nīmanis and Aigars Apinis.
Cast: Aigars Apinis, Tālivaldis Lasmanis, Skaidrīte Putniņa, Inese Ramute, Klinta Reinholde, Elīna Vāne.
