Joint press release by the Darmstadt Public Prosecutor and the South Hesse Police Headquarters:
After a dispute between football supporters of the SV Darmstadt 98 and Eintracht Frankfurt clubs in Weiterstadt on Sunday, August 16, 2020 (we reported), the police initiated numerous criminal proceedings against the participants for serious breach of the peace and dangerous bodily harm.
In this context, the investigators of the Darmstadt-Dieburg police department, accompanied by the Darmstadt public prosecutor’s office, searched numerous apartments in the Rhine-Main area and northern Hesse early on Tuesday morning (8 September) and seized extensive evidence.
In the course of their intensive investigations, including the evaluation of clues, the officials entrusted with the proceedings had quickly tracked down the suspects, who have their domiciles in Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Ginsheim-Gustavsburg and in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. The meticulous work of the police culminated in a large-scale police operation on Tuesday morning, during which twelve objects were searched at the same time. The search warrants had previously been applied for by the Darmstadt public prosecutor and were then issued by the judge.
With the help of their colleagues from the Hessian riot police, the officers, with the support of their colleagues from the Hessian riot police, provided, among other things, several data carriers, suspected crime clothing, active and passive weapons, for example pepper sprays, an airsoft pistol, telescopic baton, masking objects, mouthguards and boxing gloves for sure.
The evaluation of the evidence and the associated further investigations are ongoing. Against this background, no further information can currently be given.
