Eurozone GDP fell by 14.7 percent year on year. Month-on-month, the economies of the countries paying in euros fell by 11.8 percent.

The second quarter was still marked by measures against the spread of covid-19, Eurostat said.

Of the Member States, Spain’s GDP fell the most between quarters, by 18.5 percent. It is followed by Croatia with a decline of 14.9 percent and Hungary, whose economy fell by 14.5 percent.

By contrast, the smallest decline between quarters was recorded in Finland – by 4.5 percent. It is followed by Lithuania with a decrease of 5.5 percent and Estonia, whose GDP decreased by 5.6 percent.

Compared to the previous quarter, household consumption fell by 12 percent across the EU and by 12.4 percent in the euro area. There was also a significant decline in exports – by 18 percent in the euro area and by 17.8 percent in the entire 27.
