Obajtek has repeatedly said that his goal and mission is to build a multi-energy concern with diversified sources of income and profits. Therefore, over two years ago, the concern from Płock initiated the acquisition of another fuel company – Grupa Lotos. In July 2020, the European Commission issued conditional consent to the takeover of the Gdańsk company. At the same time, the process of taking over the largest Polish gas company PGNiG by Orlen began.
Under the presidency of Daniel Obajtek, the concern from Płock took over the Energa Group in April 2020, and a year earlier it made a financing offer for Ruch, with the intention of taking over 100% of shares. her shares. According to the company’s information, the latter transaction is to be finalized soon.
During the term of office of the current head of Orlen – in 2018 – the activation of Unipetrol, the largest refining and petrochemical concern in the Czech Republic, was finalized. Investments in the Lithuanian refinery in Możejki are also an important element of the Płock concern’s strategy.
During the presidency, Orlen also invests in domestic companies belonging to the concern, e.g. in Anwil. Orlen Południe is being transformed into a modern biorefinery. The plant in Trzebinia, which belongs to this company, is currently building the largest installation in Europe for the production of ecological propylene glycol and an installation for hydrogen purification.
The concern from Płock also invests in its recognition through sponsorship activities. During Obajtek’s rule in 2019, Orlen became involved in Formula 1 and cooperation with Robert Kubica, which is being continued.
Before taking the presidency of Orlen, from 2017 Daniel Obajtek was the president of the Energa Group. Previously, in 2016–2017, he was the head of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture.

During the award ceremony in Karpacz, where this year’s Forum is exceptionally held, a letter from Jarosław Kaczyński was read out by Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of State Assets.
The PiS president described Obajtek as “one of the helmsmen of Polish business”.
“He is not only a man of economic success, but also a man of mission” – wrote J. Kaczyński.
The PiS president stated that the activities of Obajtek and Orlen himself are part of a strategy that is to stimulate the Polish economy so as to build – as he described – “the Polish version of the welfare state”.
