The civil Guard has arrested two brothers from Moraña 33 and 18 years of age, as alleged perpetrators of a robo with force inside a stone workshop from which they stole a stone cross that could date from year 1,400 which was in the process of restoration.
The investigations of the Team of the Civil Guard Company of Vilagarcía, in collaboration with Caldas de Reis, culminated in the arrests of these brothers, one of whom had background for previous thefts.
The events took place last week when, after jumping a perimeter wall, they entered the sawmill’s facilities to then steal an old stone cross.
The investigations concluded with the recovery of the stolen cross, which was initially found in a stone wall ‘in poor condition’ of a private individual in the village of Fonte, Lamas parish, which fell and was rebuilt, and that the owner decided to donate to City Hall.
Supposedly the cross was located on a road formerly dedicated to the Santiago’s road. At present the City Council “is trying to document it before the Xunta in order to recover that old road.”
For this reason, this cross is not yet registered in the Consistory’s catalog of assets of cultural interest, according to the Civil Guard.
The proceedings instructed in relation to this theft have been delivered in the court of Guard Instruction of the town of Caldas de Reis.
