Soccer players win 2-1 in Breisgau thanks to joker hits

After the first Bundesliga matchday, Bayers footballers say hello from fifth place. Coach Achim Feifel’s team earned this with a 2-1 (0-1) win at SC Freiburg. But they had to worry for a long time before the final cheers. The decisive hits only fell in the final phase.

First, Freiburg submitted. The SCF captain and former Leverkusen resident Rebecca Knaak converted a penalty into a well-deserved lead with the break whistle. The guests from the Rhine made for the late turn, because Coach Feifel showed a lucky hand with his changes. Gianna Rackow (86th) equalized just five minutes after taking in. In Henrietta Csiszár, a player who initially sat on the bench was also responsible for the acclaimed second goal in stoppage time.

“We struggled very hard at the beginning. After the break it looked much better. We built up a lot of pressure for the last half hour and really deserved the compensation. So it’s all the more beautiful that it was even enough to win, ”said Feifel, who had brought four of the many newcomers to the start (Sylwia Matysik, Lilla Turanyi, Nina Brüggemann and Kristin Kögel) and one more (Viktoria Pinther).

The Leverkusen team will continue against MSV Duisburg on Friday. Under normal circumstances, Bayer 04 could hope for a decent backdrop at Kurtekotten. However, the club has decided to choose a solution similar to that of SC Freiburg. Few tickets are only awarded internally. “We would like to give our fans the chance to cheer on the team at their first home game, but we also have a duty of care to our supporters,” says Thomas Eichin, Bayer’s head of youth and women.

The supporters of the new team can at least get to know them intensively in front of the TV: Eurosport shows the game live. Maybe this will be the only home game without ticket sales. Bayer 04 wants to keep an eye on the number of corona cases and is working on a concept that will allow at least some fans to be re-admitted under strict hygiene requirements.
