‘Threats’ during Forum for Democracy meeting appears to be a false alarm

There was information about a situation that could be threatening to Thierry Baudet and Theo Hiddema, Forum for Democracy said. “That is why they left the room as a precaution on the advice of our security. The audience has not been in danger at any time.”

This also confirms a spokesperson for the police. “We had indications that people wanted to disrupt the meeting. After checking these people, it turned out that they meant no harm. So it all fizzled out.”

The spokesperson cannot say how alarmed the police were. “But we are taking it safe, because it is a political meeting.”

Back on stage

Baudet and Hiddema are now back on stage. Visitors are allowed to leave the room, but are not allowed to re-enter afterwards.

The event is in the Musis Sacrum on the Velperbinnensingel. The police spoke on Twitter of a ‘suspicious situation around the Velperbinnensingel’ and that is why a police helicopter was hovering over Arnhem.
