The perpetrator of the terrorist attack in Istanbul is sentenced to 40 life sentences

A Turkish court on Monday, September 7, sentenced 40 people to life imprisonment for Uzbek citizen Abdulgadir Masharipov, who shot dead on the night of January 1, 2017 in Istanbul nightclub “Reina”, killing 39 people.

Masharipov was convicted of 39 murders and attempted to overthrow the constitutional order, and on each of these points was sentenced to life imprisonment without the right to early release. The court also sentenced him to a total of 1368 years for attempted murder of 79 people injured in the attack.

Masharipov’s trial in Turkey began in December 2017 and he was charged with murder, attempted murder and membership of a terrorist organization.
